What backdrops suit W Brisbane?

It depends on the space. The Great Room takes large stage displays such as light up letters and full flower or arch backdrops. The foyer suits an entry photo moment, the Studios suit photo walls, and the WET Deck is where big light up numbers shine for birthdays. Because W's interiors are deliberately dark, lit backdrops do double duty as both a focal point and a light source.

Do you work with the W Brisbane events team?

Regularly. We are across the loading dock, the bump-in procedures and the building's access points, so coordination with the W team is routine rather than something we are figuring out on the day.

How does bump-in work at W Brisbane, and is there a timing consideration?

Access is via lift, which is the main thing to plan around. We factor it into bump-in timing and can work to tight turnarounds when the run sheet is busy. Let us know the window and we will build to it.

Can you set up a proposal or surprise in a W Brisbane hotel suite?

Yes. For suite proposals and in-room surprises we liaise with the W Brisbane team to coordinate delivery and collection straight to your room, so everything is ready before you arrive and cleared afterwards without you lifting a finger.

Iris Rooftop

ABOUT THE VENUE

Iris sits on the rooftop of The Alva Hotel Brisbane (formerly Hotel X) at 458 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley. It has 360-degree views across the city skyline, Story Bridge and the river, with a Spanish-inspired menu and a pool at its centre. Iris is part of the Ghanem Group. We work with their event planners regularly, so bump in, timing and placement are already sorted between us before your event. Our team knows the loading dock and lifts. Most of our larger pieces fold down to fit, including shimmer walls, flower walls, light up letters, and arches, so set up is quick and fuss-free.

Poolside

ROOM BY ROOM

Poolside has the best views on the rooftop, with the pool in front and the city skyline behind. It’s a strong choice for corporate events that need to impress and for luxe birthdays. The most popular set up runs light up letters along the wall to your right as you enter, so a company name, a word or a milestone number stretches the length of the space. After dark, the lit letters, the pool and the skyline all appear in the same photo. Our letters and numbers are solid steel, built for outdoor use and weighted for the open air, so they’re made for a rooftop like this.

Terraza

The Terraza is Iris’s main dining area and fits the largest number of guests, whether cocktail style or seated. It’s fully undercover with an indoor-outdoor feel. There are two favourite positions. The first is along the railing, where the city skyline forms the backdrop for every photo. The second is against the brick wall at the back, which gives a solid base for light up letters, arch backdrops, and big orb ball displays. Light up letters in particular work well in either spot for corporate functions, Christmas parties and birthday celebrations.

The Sunset Lounge

The Sunset Lounge is a private indoor space, set apart from the rest of the venue while still keeping the rooftop atmosphere and views. It’s mostly used for cocktail-style events and suits birthdays and smaller celebrations. The standout position is the back wall or corner, which has power directly behind it. That makes it ideal for:

Iris Rooftop Styling FAQ

What backdrops suit Iris Rooftop?
It depends on the space:

Poolside: light up letters and numbers along the right-hand wall as you enter, with the pool and skyline behind.

Terraza: along the railing for city views, or against the brick wall at the back for shimmer walls and flower walls.

Sunset Lounge: the back wall, with power right behind it. It suits neon signs, shimmer walls, floral neon backdrops, arches and light up numbers.

Are your decorations suitable for an open-air rooftop?
Yes. Our letters and numbers are solid steel, built for outdoor use, and we weight everything we install at Iris, including backdrops and balloon bunches. Everything stays in place from bump in to pack down.

Is there power for light up letters and neon signs?
We bring extension leads to every Iris set up and run them safely wherever they’re needed. The Sunset Lounge has power directly behind the main backdrop position.

Do you work with the Iris events team?
Yes. We work regularly with the Ghanem Group event planners and liaise with them directly to confirm bump in and bump out times. Everything is set up and ready before your guests arrive, which is one less thing for you to organise.
